A person coming to India should have a valid passport of the respective country he/she belongs to and a valid Indian visa. The visas can be obtained from the Indian embassies situated in other countries.
The following documents are required to be submitted for visas :
Visa application form The visa application form should be properly filled in clearly and legibly in bold (capital) letters in blue/black only.
Passport It should have a minimum validity of six months on the date of application with at least two blank pages.
Photograph 2 latest identical passport size photographs (black/white or color) depicting front pose against light background It should also contain the supporting documents if asked for any and the visa fees also.
Visa provisions The various types of visa provision available in India are described below:-
Tourist visa This visa is valid for 180 days (6 months). It is a multi entry visa and it can’t be extended in India.
Transit visa This visa is valid for 15 days. It is a single and double entry visa. The documents required while applying for this visa are return/onward journey ticket. This visa can’t be extended in India.
Business visa This visa is valid for 5 years. It is a multi entry visa. The documents required when applying for this visa are documents to prove the purpose like companies letter. This visa can be extended in India.
Employment visa This visa is valid for 1 year or for the period of contact. This is a multi entry visa. The proof of employment (appointment document), terms and conditions are to be submitted while applying for the visa. This visa can be extended in India.
Student visa This visa is issued for 5 years or the time of the course. It’s a multi entry visa. A proof to show admission in the Indian institute should be attached along with the visa form while applying for the visa. This visa can be extended in India.
Foreigners of Indian originThis visa is issued for 5 years. It’s a multi entry visa. The person should attach a document which proofs that he/she is of Indian origin along with the visa form. This visa is extended in India.
Foreigners who arrive in India on tourist visa don’t have to register themselves with a local authority. They can travel freely in all the areas expect the restricted areas.
Visa extension is granted for 15 days and in exceptional cases it can be extended for longer period. The application process is a bit complicated. If a person is there in delhi then he has to collect an extension form from The Ministry of Home Affairs Office, and then submit it to The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The extension will finally be issued by Ministry of Home Affairs. In Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata persons can directly contact the local FRRO.
