Chess in India

Chess is one of the India’s popular board games. Chess is an abstract strategy board game and mental sport for two players. The objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king. This occurs when the king is under immediate attack and there is no way to prevent it from being captured on the next move.

The game is as intense as foot ball or hockey, with equally stressful moments, only difference is that the players are not physically, but mentally sweating it out.A game which enables you to displace kings and queens with your fingertips can go a long way in sharpening your strategic and analytical skills. The complexity of the game does not lie in understanding the rules, but in executing them. The moves are well defined, the objective is crystal clear. Therefore the first step is to master the rules of the game.

The glory of chess in India starts with the invention of the game, and after centuries of obscurity, comes into light through India’s most celebrated chess player, Vishwanathan Anand.

Some of the other popular sports in India are Badminton, Kho-kho, Kabaddi Volley ball, Table tennis, Squash, Pool, Bowling, Billiards and snooker.
